Mayor Adrian Mapp announced today that Plainfield will utilize the
NIXLE mass communication service in partnership with the city’s website
(plainfieldnj.gov) and PCTV effective Feb. 3, 2014.
This will allow the administration to send important and valuable information directly to residents and city employees via text messages and/or email, such as weather and traffic alerts and emergency and safety information.
“Nixle will provide the City of Plainfield with timely information that will be sent to the people who opt into the system,” said Mayor Adrian Mapp. “I commend Acting Police Director Carl Riley for his swift implementation of this system, which has long been delayed in previous administrations.”
Mapp added that there is no cost to the city and no spam related advertising will be associated with this process. Those who wish to receive text message alerts should text “07060” (Plainfield’s zip code) to 888777 for notifications. Emails can also be received in addition to text messages, and those wishing to receive emails can sign up at nixle.com.
“We encourage everyone to sign up for this service,” said Mayor Mapp. “Nixle will allow my administration to achieve the open administration and communication with our residents that will help us build a safer, stronger Plainfield.”

Checked it out and signed up. Thank you for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI signed up on the 26th when I saw it in the Star Ledger. It's a great system. My husband takes Hillcrest Ave and the alert that it was closed during the snow saved a lot of stress from getting there and being turned around.
