As we learned at Monday evening's special meeting, the community policing efforts of the Plainfield Police Division (PPD) have been reaping many benefits, including increased trust and lower crime. I recently attended the Operation Fuse events at Plainfield High School on successive Fridays (March 4 and March 11). The Plainfield Municipal Alliance and the Plainfield Board of Education partnered with the PPD's Juvenile Unit to host these evenings of fun and activities for our young people. Hundreds of kids attended the 8th graders event on March 4, which brought together kids from Maxson and Hubbard, respectively, and the Plainfield High School event on March 11.

I participated in some of the games with our kids--it was clear that my aiming/throwing skills needed work! I attend these activities because I think it is important for our kids to know that we care about them, that we care about their safety, and that we demonstrate that by showing up for events that are important to them and to us, as a larger community.
