Team Work Makes the Dream Work!

The A Team for Plainfield endorsing Mayor Mapp.

After my previous blog post, I received several queries from local and county friends, constituents, and media types, some of whom seemed to think that I was "signing off," so to speak. Nothing could be further from the truth, so I just wanted to set the record straight. I remain committed to public service, and I am thankful for the support from my colleagues on the city council, as well as from Mayor Mapp, a loyal friend and ally whose unwavering support and friendship remain dear to me as we work together for the betterment of our city, county, and state.

As council president, I was able to successfully move the legislative agenda forward this past year with the assistance of my colleagues, and I led the council as Finance Committee Chair for the second consecutive year in adopting the earliest budget passage in recent memory while staying below the 2% cap.
Being sworn in by Mayor Mapp.

In addition to serving as the First Vice-Chair of the Plainfield Democratic City Committee, elected unanimously by the membership on a slate endorsed and presented by our municipal chairman, Mayor Mapp, I am now the second longest-serving councilor among the current governing body, with several years of legislative experience under my belt, including passage of important initiatives, such as the Earned Sick Leave Act--legislation which I am proud to have introduced and led, and which was passed unanimously by the city council. As a veteran campaigner for 16 years, who has run many local elections going back several years (including serving as campaign manager for Linda Carter's first foray into politics when she ran for an at-large council seat, and serving in various capacities over the past two decades (as well as often managing campaign operations) for several councilors as well as for Adrian Mapp), I am happy to have a strong track record of success as a loyal and hardworking team member. My many years of experience have taught me well.

As an African American woman in politics, I am always ready to serve, and my long record of experience (15 years) as a member and former Vice-President of the League of Women Voters of Plainfield also keeps me well-informed on the issues facing voters. I am often invited to the Eagleton Institute's Center for American Women and Politics to serve on panels and offer my insights into the legislative process in New Jersey, and I am grateful for the many friends I have made.

I continue to appreciate and enjoy the unwavering support of the mayor and my colleagues as new opportunities arise and as we look toward the future in Plainfield, in Union County, and in the state with our new governor. I look forward to continuing to serve my city, my county, and my state.

All best,

Rebecca
