"Fences" Kickstarts Summer Performing Arts in Plainfield!

Last night, I was thrilled to witness a wonderful production of August Wilson's Fences, staged in the Cultural Arts Center at Shiloh Baptist Church. The final performance is today, Sunday, June 24 at 3:00 pm. Tickets are available at www.onyxkeesha.com.

With solid direction by Danielle Tucker, the performances are strong and self-assured. I am especially enthralled with Steve Holmes's moving interpretation of Troy, a man whose outer demeanor of strength and pride masks his unaccomplished dreams. In addition, this adaptation also evinces a wonderful portrayal of Rose by Onyx Keesha Monroe, and strong work by the rest of the talented cast. I don't want to say more, because folks need to go and see the show for themselves!

As I noted in my greetings last night, the revitalization we are experiencing in Plainfield includes our cultural renaissance, which is exemplified by the theatrical productions, as well as the two upcoming film festivals. Stay tuned!
